I really hope I will help someone who is struggling to accept themselves or just trying to find themselfs. I’m sometimes still having difficulties with my sexuality, even tho I accept and support everyone else. It’s not easy, because homophobia/biphobia and hate in general still exists. So I want to share my tips with you.
1. Share your feelings and thoughts with someone supportive
Talk to someone you trust or come out on the internet. But always make sure you are safe and remember you don’t have to come out to anyone. If you do, you could find some LGBTQ+ friends, which is awesome.
2. Find out more about the LGBTQ+ community and identities
I feel like knowing more and reading stories of other people helps you understand yourself and be more accepting towards others. Also it’s interesting to learn about history and culture of this community.
3. Watch LGBTQ+ movies and TV shows
Seeing yourself represented is great..plus who doesn’t like watching cute gay people kiss?
4. Read LGBTQ+ books, watch YouTube or listen to music
I think internet helped me a lot on my journey of acceptance and realizing my sexuality. You can relate to others people experiences and find a part of yourself within them.
5. Don’t think about it too much, relax and give it time
It could take a few days, months or years. Things like time. If you are not sure about your label, you don’t have to obsess about it. There is no need for having a label. And if you have internalized homophobia it might take longer. But that’s ok. It’s your journey and eventually you are gonna be fine.
Remember that you are loved, you are valid and you are important. Someday you will find people who accept you the way you are and you will accept yourself as well.
